Komen Shorts

Komen Shorts: 30 Seconds to Save a Life

$500 and a local TV spot could you yours! We are inviting submissions from people of all ages to enter our film shorts competition, in association with The Loft Cinema. Entries will be screened at a special event at The Loft early next year.
We’re looking for 30-second shorts that raise awareness about breast cancer, and will be used by Komen in future publicity. Your film must highlight at least one of Komen Southern Arizona’s key health education messages:
•    Early Detection is the Best Protection
•    Know What’s Normal for You
•    The 75/25 Promise: 75% of the money we raise stays in Southern Arizona to support breast health grants; 25% goes to national research to find a cure

Although there are no categories for this competition, the following are the demographic groups we are aiming to target in future publicity:

* Spanish language speakers
* Latinas
* African Americans
* American Indians
* Asians
* Multi-cultural
* Survivors thriving

Shorts Guidelines
How do I enter? You must submit your entry on a DVD or CD.  The video file size should be kept under 500MB and the completed spot should be submitted as mpeg, mov, avi or wmv files. It must be exactly 30 seconds long and cannot contain copyrighted images.  You can mail or drop off your entry at the Susan G. Komen Southern Arizona office at 4574 E. Broadway Boulevard, Tucson, AZ 85711.

When is the deadline? Midnight, January 3, 2012.

How will the winner be chosen? A committee appointed by Susan G. Komen Southern Arizona will review all submissions for content-appropriate material.  Shorts will be shown at the committee’s discretion at a public screening at The Loft.  A panel of judges, chosen by Susan G. Komen Southern Arizona, will choose the Grand Prize winner.

Are there categories? See above. Although there are some demographic groups we would like to see addressed in future publicity, this is for guidance only. We welcome targeted messages, but you are under no obligation to tailor your short to a specific group.

What is the prize? The Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 cash prize from The Loft/Komen SAZ as well as exposure by one or more of Komen SAZ’s media partners, including KOLD, KVOA, Cox Communications and Comcast. Entry to the competition may include, but does not guarantee, airing by our media partners.
