GivingWhy Give to the Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure? The funds raised in Southern Arizona have been serving the Tucson and Southern Arizona communities for the past 10 years by providing funding (75% of net proceeds) for educational outreach and support, collaborative partnerships, public policy initiatives, and local life saving programs which address education, screening and treatment for women who otherwise could not afford it . The remaining 25% of net proceeds raised in Southern Arizonan contribute to ground breaking international research to find the cures for breast cancer. Through Susan G. Komen for the Cure research grant funds, Southern Arizona has seen research monies totaling more than $1 million dollars return back to our community through grants to the University of Arizona Cancer Center. Tribute and Memorial GiftsWhat is a tribute gift? Instead of traditional gifts or gift cards for your friends and family, a tribute gift is a great alternative with so much meaning. Your passion to help us in our promise to end breast cancer forever will mean so much when you send a tribute gift. What is a Memorial Gift? How do I make a tribute or memorial gift to The Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure? There are a number of ways you can honor someone with a donation: 1. Send a check or money order to: Komen SAZ (4574 E Broadway Blvd Tucson AZ 85711). Enclose a note with the name of the person you would like to honor, the dollar amount of the gift for each person or family member. 2. Go on line at www.komensaz.org and click the “Make a Donation” button. You will be instructed to follow the steps to make a gift in honor of or in memory of your friend or family member. 3. Call 520 319-0155 and our volunteers or staff will take the information along with your credit card number and we will complete your gift transaction over the phone. When a tribute or memorial gift is received, Komen SAZ will send a personalized acknowledgement of your gift to the person or family indicated. The acknowledgement will notify them of your thoughtful donation and only reveal the dollar amount of the gift if you request us to do so. Host an Event – Friends of Komen EventIndividuals, friends, families, businesses, church groups or any organization have generously hosted special events or activities to benefit our Southern Arizona Affiliate. The simple steps to host an event include:
Corporate PartnersCorporate sponsors have been a mainstay for the Southern Arizona Affiliate since it’s inception. Both Affiliate and Race Sponsorships are the foundation for our organization. Approximately one third of the contributions for our signature event, Race for the Cure, come from our corporate partners in Southern Arizona. Cash as well as in-kind donations are necessary to ensure the success of the Race and the affiliate. Race for the Cure Sponsors are essential to the event. Both cash and in kind contributions help keep the cost of operations at a minimum, thus providing more funds for much needed breast health services in Southern Arizona. The 2010 Race Sponsorship Opportunities Brochure, Sponsor Benefit Sheet and Race Agreement are now available. Please read through the material to find the sponsorship level or targeted package that best fits your company. Race for the CureJoin us for Southern Arizona’s largest participatory event, with approximately 14,000 annual participants. Our signature fundraising event is held each spring at Reid Park in Tucson. With the help of over 600 volunteers, we are able to raise approximately $1.4 million dollars annually in cash and in-kind contributions. If you are not the “running type” or “event type” or just want to “sleep in” on the weekends, enjoy the “Sleep In for the Cure” option! Register as an individual or team, then get your friends and family to participate. Or you can donate to a friend, family member or team participating in the Race. It is easy and your gift will be greatly appreciated.

Employer Matching GiftsA great way to stretch your contribution and help us in our fight to end breast cancer forever is by employer matching gifts programs. Many companies encourage you to contribute to organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure by matching your donation. Most of the programs match dollar for dollar and some provide a match for your volunteer hours. If you don’t see your company listed below, please inquire with your human resources department about your employer’s matching gift policy and leverage your donation today.
Gifts of Stocks, Bonds and Mutual FundsDonating stocks, bonds or shares of your mutual funds is easily accomplished and your broker can assist you in making gift of securities to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. You will receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of transfer, no matter what you originally paid. You will pay no capital gains tax on the securities you donate. You will have the satisfaction of making a significant life-saving gift now. Gift of an IRAA special new tax provision now allows you to make a distribution from your IRA to Susan G. Komen for the Cure SAZ without incurring any tax on the withdrawal. Anyone 70-years or older by the end of the year can give up to $100,000 from their traditional or Roth IRA to qualified charities like Komen SAZ. This is very good news for people who want to make a charitable gift from their retirement assets during their lifetime, but have been discouraged from doing it because of the income tax penalty. To take full advantage of this current law, you must act by December 31, 2009, so please join us now.
