Grant Programs

The Southern Arizona Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen For the Cure will award over $750,000 to the fight against breast cancer in 2007. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds from fundraising efforts will remain locally to fight breast cancer in Southern Arizona and twenty-five percent will go to support the high profile national research program. Each year, grants are awarded to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and awareness programs to medically under-served women. From a bilingual Breast Cancer Disease Management Program for the uninsured and under-served women to a program of targeted education for young women in Nogales, Arizona on lifelong patterns of self examination, risk factors and the importance of early detection, the Southern Arizona affiliate is working to support local efforts in the fight against breast cancer.

A Community Needs Assessment of Breast Health and Breast Health Services
To ensure we are funding programs that address the specific unmet breast health needs of our community, we work with local medical experts, community leaders, survivors and breast health advocates to conduct comprehensive community needs assessments. This community profile is used to establish local grant application and review processes consistent with Komen's standards and promise. Updated every two years, the Southern Arizona community profile is the driving force behind our activities, funded programs and outreach initiatives, ensuring we are making a difference and re-shaping the outcomes for women and men in our community.
