Students for the Cure®

What is Students for the Cure®?
Students For The Cure® is an elementary (K-5) health and wellness curriculum designed for teachers who believe that health-related issues, physical activity, and community service are essential to the development of children but lack the time and/or materials to effectively incorporate them into daily lesson plans. The Students For The Cure® curriculum is made up of three components:
Physical Activity
Health Standards
Community Service
Infusing all three components into weekly lesson plans results in a meaningful learning experience for all students. Students for the Cure® provides the critical link between school and real life.
Students For The Cure® can also be adapted for Middle School and High School students.
Part I: Physical Activity
The goal of the physical activity component is to increase students' cardiovascular fitness level through structured plan and jogging or walking on a designated course 2-3 times per week. The program is designed to get students ready to participate in the Komen Southern Arizona Race for the Cure®, benefiting the Southern Arizona Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Part II: Health Standards
The goal of the health and wellness component is to encourage students to examine their own health behaviors and make positive changes that will benefit them now and into adulthood. Arizona State health standards are integrated into math, reading, writing, speaking, and science requirements using real life situations and applications.
Part III: Community Service
The goal of the community service component is to increast students' awareness of breast cancer and provides the opportunity for them to be active participants in the effort to find a cure. Working in conjunction with the Southern Arizona Susan G. Komen for the Cure, students raise money to support life-saving programs locally and internationally.

Men for the Cure®
Why should men care about breast cancer?
- Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime?
- Are there women in your life that you care about - your mother, your wife, your daughter, your sister, your friend?
- If one of these women were to be diagnosed with breast cancer, how would you feel? Wouldn't you like to know that everything that could have been done to combat this disease had been done?
- Did you know that men can get breast cancer, too? 2,030 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States this year and 450 of those men will die?
Join our fight NOW!
- Get educated about the issues surrounding breast cancer.
- Help us reach out to other men to educate them about this disease.
- Stop by the CoSurvivor booth (next to the Survivor Tent) on Race Day.
