Volunteer OpportunitiesAdministrative VolunteerOffice Volunteer: Volunteers will assist in a receptionist type position. They will assist Program Managers in making phone calls, mailing letters, filing, sorting or special projects as needed. Computer skills are desired, but not necessary. This position is typically a four hour, weekly shift; although you can volunteer as a back up volunteer and fill in when needed. Office Intern: Please call the affiliate to inquire about current opportunities. We do not currently offer paid internships. Newsletter/Writer: Will collect information from various sources and put into an electronic newsletter which will be distributed to all volunteers and all visitors to our web site. Photographer: Photographers are needed to attend various events in order to catalogue our events pictorially. These pictures may be used in marketing initiatives and on our website. Web Design: As we continue to grow our website, we are looking for a detailed oriented person to assist with design, implementation and review of our website. This volunteer will work closely with our Web Consultant. Advocacy VolunteerPublic Policy Committee Member: A volunteer in this position will work within a committee structure to analyze strategies and develop action plans to promote public funding and policy for breast cancer health. A year long commitment and the ability to attend quarterly meetings are required. Knowledge of the legislative structure and an interest in public policy is desired. Community Program VolunteerEducation Committee: Committee members fulfill the education mission of Susan G. Komen for the Cure through various programs designed to increase awareness and knowledge of breast health and Komen activities for both Affiliate members and the general public. Committees include: Grants and Education. A year long commitment is necessary, along with the ability to attend or teleconference into monthly meetings. We are looking for volunteers who have leadership skills, planning experience, or are comfortable with financial information. Grants Panelist: This group of volunteers is responsible for reviewing Community Grant applications, assigning scores to categories that are addressed in the application, and make funding recommendations based upon the merit of the project, proposed work-plan and objectives, and budget. Reviews take place during the month of January, and require a 10 hour time commitment, as well as the ability to attend a training session. The ability to understand the community profile and grant expectations, as well as offer constructive feedback is required. Health Fair Volunteer: Volunteers are needed to represent Komen for the Cure at various Health Fairs. The goal is to increase the general publics' awareness and knowledge of breast health and of the Komen for the Cure organization. Duties may include setting up a display, answering questions about Komen for the Cure, breast health, and handing out educational information. Heath Fairs are usually scheduled at various locations during weekday office hours, however some weekend opportunities are available. Volunteers should be comfortable talking with the public, and be willing to learn basic information breast health and our organization. Speaker's Bureau: The Speaker's Bureau is responsible for increasing both awareness and knowledge of breast health practices and Komen for the Cure by providing education outreach programs to the general public, companies and community groups. As our local affiliate of Komen for the Cure increases in visibility in our community, many different organizations throughout the year invite representatives from Komen to come speak to them or appear at an event they are hosting. Topics range from personal experiences, general history of Komen, and information on breast cancer. Additional training and education will be provided for those interested in representing Komen. Sometimes, this just involves going to an event, collecting a donation, and saying a few words about Komen. This type of volunteer opportunity is available to adults only and requires Speaker's Bureau training Volunteers who have experience in public speaking, or are knowledgeable about breast health are desired. Training is provided.) Survivor Activities: Participate as a volunteer breast cancer survivor or as a dedicated volunteer in various survivor campaigns. Survivors are also needed to share their stories at events, with the media, or in an assortment of articles. Some responsibilities involve commitments of only a day; however other positions may involve a longer time period. Development VolunteerCommittee Member: Development committee volunteers will be working on implementing giving initiatives such as: Major gifts, corporate sponsorships, third party fundraising, national programs and direct solicitation in a team environment. This position requires a year long commitment, leadership skills and the ability to attend monthly meetings. A volunteer with experience in fundraising is required. Special Event Volunteer: Volunteers represent Komen for the Cure at various Komen and 3rd party events. As a Komen Representative, duties and responsibilities may include handing out Komen materials and/or third party gifts, answering questions about the event and its goals, and other duties that pertain to the specific event. Volunteers are notified of opportunities by e-mail, and usually require a two to four hour shift. Volunteers should be personable, outgoing and comfortable talking with the public. |
